Prompt: Pietà is a sculpture combining AI, a masterpiece, and sculpting skills. The artist aasked ChatGPT for the five most famous sculptures in the world; one of them was La Pietà by Michaelangelo. She then fed the description to MidJourney (AI image generator) and generated a photo (seen below). The translation process between the various components resulted in an uncanny outcome: odd disturbances like multiple legs and arms, distorted faces and proportions occurred in the image. Following the tradition of copying masterpieces, the artist used clay and Terra Sigillata, an age-old material and technique to translate the image back into the physical world. By now MidJourney has evolved and does not repeat those mistakes, therefore making the sculpture a time capsule of subject and object of knowledge in the making.
